Recruitment in Dubai
I landed in Dubai ready to start MCG Talent in 2008 amid a global recession, back home in the UK there was pictures of the Burj Al Arab sinking into the sea alongside headlines of Dubai being in crisis.
My job was to bring talent to Dubai – not an easy thing to do back then with those headlines on the front page of the newspapers.
I set up MCG Talent to find digital, marketing and communications people, this is where I carved out my niche – there was pretty much no one else doing recruitment in that space at that time.
Recruitment firms in the region back then were the big global players who were focused on things like banking and insurance.
Now things have changed – the whole world seems to want to move to Dubai, and there is a new recruitment firm popping up every other day.
Dubai is now one of the most competitive job markets in the world.
Most of our job posts on LinkedIn get over 1,000 application – we even had a COO role that got over 3,000 applications in the first two days of posting it.
But volume doesn’t equal quality.
It’s difficult to find top talent in this market, and even more difficult to secure it.
Dubai, like other places the Middle East such as Abu Dhabi and Doha attracts the most ambitions talent from across the globe.
Attracting AND retaining talent here, isn’t like many other places in the world.
