Over the years of running businesses, I've learned some valuable lessons about managing people. It’s one of the most crucial aspects of any company. Here are some of the more important ones:

Overwork and Burnout 

Expecting overwork and rewarding it is a recipe for burnout. Balance is key. Encourage your team to work smart, not just hard. 

Eliminate Gossip 

Gossip undermines culture. Eliminate it. A culture of transparency and respect creates a positive work environment. 

Avoid Micromanaging 

Micromanaging stifles long-term efficiency and creativity. Trust your team and give them the autonomy to excel. 

Develop Your Top Talent 

If you don't prioritise the development of your top talent, they’ll seek opportunities elsewhere. Invest in their growth and they’ll invest in your company. 

Retention Reflects Management 

The departure of your best employees reflects on your management. Properly trained managers are essential for effective leadership. 

Competitive Pay 

Competitive pay is necessary to retain your staff. Ensure your compensation packages are fair and attractive. 

Uphold Company Values 

Uphold and reinforce your company values consistently. It sets the standard for behaviour and performance.
