Ten essential truths

I’ve met many new entrepreneurs, who aren’t ready to hear honest truths.

Without them, it’s going to be difficult to succeed.

Here are 10 truths you need to remember to keep you grounded and on track to achieve your goals.

Get employee feedback.

It can be hard to ask your employees for honest, true feedback.

But employee feedback is crucial.

Without it, you’re operating in the dark.

A toxic workplace culture leads to high employee turnover.

This then leads to losing customers.

Gossip undermines culture. Eliminate it.

Expecting overwork by rewarding it is a recipe for burnout.

You might think that it’s okay to ask for employees to do more because you’re rewarding it.

Even with rewards, it doesn’t eliminate employee burnout.

The way employees feel about their jobs directly impacts customer satisfaction.

Customers can tell if your employees hate their job.

Micromanaging stifles long-term efficiency and creativity.

Let your team find their own style of recruitment.

Forcing them to mirror your style and managing their every word makes people feel uncomfortable and overly controlled.

Give tips and advice but don’t expect to make a duplicate of yourself.

Develop your best talent.

Give them training, support, and development opportunities.

If you don't, they'll seek opportunities elsewhere.

The departure of your best employees reflects on your management.

Do an exit interview and find out exactly why they are leaving.

It’s usually because of poor workplace culture, salary, or a lack of development available.

Properly trained managers are essential for effective leadership.

People need training to manage people.

Competitive pay is necessary to retain your staff.

If you have a great employee that you would hate to lose and they ask for and deserve a pay rise, pay it.

It’s going to be harder and much more costly to find another individual that is great at their job.

Uphold and reinforce your company values consistently.

Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

Your team should know exactly what your company stands for and how it operates.

The business landscape is evolving.

Companies that prioritise people are thriving.

Don't be left behind.
